Slovak government offers scholarships as part of its official development assistance program, which is overseen by the Ministry of Foreign and European Affairs. These scholarships aim to support students from eligible countries in pursuing higher education in Slovakia. Their administration follows Act No. 392/2015 Coll. on Development Cooperation, along with Decree No. 50/2016 issued by the Ministry of Education, Science, Research, and Sport. This decree, which came into effect on January 1, 2016, establishes the specific rules and conditions for awarding scholarships.

In addition to providing financial support for international students, these scholarships align with Slovakia’s broader efforts to promote global education and cooperation. To strengthen this commitment, the Slovak government introduced the Medium-Term Strategy for Development Cooperation (2019–2023), outlining its long-term goals in this area. The program aims to enhance educational opportunities while fostering international relations and knowledge exchange.
