Job Description

The University of Alberta is now inviting applications for the prestigious Izaak Walton Killam Memorial Scholarship, which is available for international doctoral candidates. Benefits of the Izaak Walton Killam Memorial Scholarship

Eligibility Criteria

To qualify for the Izaak Walton Killam Memorial Scholarship 2025, applicants must meet the following requirements:

  1. Be enrolled as a full-time doctoral student or be admissible to a doctoral program.
  2. Have completed at least 12 months of graduate work (at the master’s or doctoral level) by May 1, 2025, or September 1, 2025.
  3. Not exceed 48 months in their doctoral program as of December 31, 2024.
  4. Have at least 18 months of full-time registration remaining after May 2025.
  5. Graduate months completed during a master’s program will count toward the doctoral program for those who transferred from a master’s to a doctoral program.
  6. There are no citizenship restrictions; candidates from all countries and fields of study are welcome to apply.
  7. Have a first-class academic standing (minimum GPA of 3.5 or equivalent) based on either the admission GPA or the current graded graduate coursework.
  8. Scholarships may only be held once per applicant.

Nomination Procedure

  1. Departments must submit eligible nominations to the Graduate and Postdoctoral Studies (GPS) office through the GSMS Awards Portal by February 13, 2025.
  2. Departments with over 100 current doctoral students may submit a maximum of 5 nominations, while departments with fewer than 100 doctoral students can submit a maximum of 3 nominations.

Adjudication Procedure

The GPS Graduate Scholarship Committee evaluates all nominations and directly notifies successful applicants. The final decisions are announced after the Killam Trustees meeting in May or early June 2025.

To apply for the Izaak Walton Killam Memorial Scholarship, candidates must follow these steps:
