Job Description

The Kemitraan Negara Berkembang (KNB) Scholarship is now open for the 2025-26 academic year! This fully funded scholarship is available to students from developing countries who wish to pursue their Bachelor’s, Master’s, or Ph.D. degrees in Indonesia.

Managed by the Directorate General of Higher Education, Technology, and Research under the Ministry of Education, Culture, Research, and Technology of Indonesia, this scholarship has been offered since 2006. So far, it has benefited 1,608 students from 97 countries, helping to strengthen Indonesia’s international academic collaborations.

Objectives of the KNB Scholarship

The program aims to:

  • Support the human resource development of developing nations.
  • Promote cultural exchange and mutual understanding among countries.
  • Strengthen cooperation and partnerships between Indonesia and other developing nations.

Duration of the Program

  • Indonesian Language Course: 12 months
  • Preparatory Program: As per university policies
  • Bachelor’s Degree: 4 years (8 semesters)
  • Master’s Degree: 2 years (4 semesters)
  • Ph.D. Program: 4 years (8 semesters)

Benefits of the KNB Scholarship

The scholarship provides financial support, including:

  • A settlement allowance upon arrival in Indonesia.
  • Monthly living allowance during the language preparation period.
  • Stipend for living expenses, research, and books throughout the program.
  • Health insurance coverage during studies.
  • Round-trip airfare (economy class) to and from Indonesia.
  • Local transport to the host university.

Note: The scholarship does not cover additional personal expenses or costs not mentioned above.


Eligibility Criteria & Required Documents

For Ph.D. Applicants:

  • Must be under 40 years old.
  • Must hold a Master’s degree (Bachelor’s degree holders are not eligible).
  • English Proficiency Requirement:
    • TOEFL (71 iBT) / IELTS (6.0) / TOEIC (640) or equivalent (valid within the last 2 years).
  • Documents Needed:
    • Master’s degree certificate & transcripts (in English).
    • Statement of Purpose detailing study objectives, research interests, and future academic goals.
    • Recommendation letter from a potential research supervisor at an Indonesian partner university.
    • Recommendation letter from the Indonesian Embassy or Consulate General.
    • Employer or direct supervisor recommendation (if applicable).
    • Academic recommendation letter from previous institutions.
    • Valid passport or personal ID.
    • Completed online application form.

For Master’s Applicants:

  • Must be under 35 years old.
  • Must hold a Bachelor’s degree (Master’s degree holders are not eligible).
  • English Proficiency Requirement:
    • TOEFL (61 iBT) / IELTS (6.0) / TOEIC (575) or equivalent (valid within the last 2 years).
  • Documents Needed:
    • Bachelor’s degree certificate & transcripts (in English).
    • Recommendation letter from the Indonesian Embassy or Consulate General.
    • Employer or direct supervisor recommendation (if applicable).
    • Academic recommendation letter from previous institutions.
    • Valid passport or personal ID.
    • Completed online application form.

For Bachelor’s Applicants:

  • Must be under 21 years old by December 31, 2025.
  • Must hold a High School diploma (Bachelor’s degree holders are not eligible).
  • English Proficiency Requirement:
    • TOEFL (53 iBT) / IELTS (5.5) / TOEIC (510) or equivalent (valid within the last 2 years).
  • Documents Needed:
    • High school certificate & transcripts (in English).
    • Recommendation letter from the Indonesian Embassy or Consulate General.
    • Employer or supervisor recommendation (if applicable).
    • Academic recommendation letter from previous schools.
    • Valid passport or personal ID.
    • Completed online Application Form.

Note: Documents must be in English or Bahasa Indonesia. If not, they must be officially translated.


How to Apply for the KNB Scholarship?

Follow these steps to submit your application:

  1. Download the  Offer Letter  from the official scholarship website.
  2. Gather all required documents, including:
    • Passport
    • English proficiency certificate
    • Recommendation letters
    • Academic transcripts & certificates
    • Statement of purpose
    • Research supervisor’s recommendation (for Ph.D. applicants)
  3. Submit all documents online through the KNB Scholarship portal.
  4. Wait for the selection process and possible interview.
  5. Check the final results on the scholarship website and through Indonesian Embassies.

Important Guidelines for Applicants

  • Research and select your preferred study program & university before applying, as changes may not be allowed later.
  • A recommendation letter from the Indonesian Embassy in your country is mandatory. If your country has no Indonesian Embassy, you may obtain one from the nearest Indonesian Embassy accredited to your country.
  • All documents must be in English or Bahasa Indonesia.
  • Applicants from English-speaking countries must still provide proof of English proficiency unless their university officially confirms their program was taught in English.
  • Universities may conduct online interviews as part of the selection process.
