Maastricht University (UM) in the Netherlands is offering fully funded High Potential Scholarships for outstanding international students to pursue a master’s degree.

Scholarship Coverage

The scholarship provides approximately €34,000 annually, covering:

  • Pre-academic training costs: €695
  • Tuition fee waiver
  • Living allowance:

    • €30,625 for two-year programs (€1,225/month)

Eligibility Requirements

Applicants must:

  1. Be nationals of non-EU/EEA countries without dual EU/EEA nationality.
  2. Fulfill visa and residency requirements for the Netherlands.
  3. Apply and meet admission requirements for a full-time master’s program at Maastricht University.
  4. Be under 35 years old as of September 1, 2025.
  5. Demonstrate excellent academic performance in their previous degree.
  6. Not have previously studied or obtained a degree in the Netherlands.


Required Documents

  1. Curriculum Vitae (CV): Maximum of 2 A4 pages.
  2. Motivation Letter: 1 A4 page detailing why you should be selected and how you will represent Maastricht University as an ambassador. Use the provided template.
  3. Reference Letter: Follow the referee guidelines and submit the contact details of one referee.
  4. Proof of Academic Excellence: Include degree transcripts showing GPA or a signed letter from your department confirming you are in the top 20% of your class.

Scholarship Types

This program includes two funding sources:

  1. High Potential Scholarship: Funded by Maastricht University.
  2. Holland Scholarship: Funded by the Dutch Ministry of Education, Culture, and Science.
