East China Normal University (ECNU) offers a fully funded scholarship for international students pursuing a Bachelor’s degree in Teaching Chinese to Speakers of Other Languages (BTCSOL). This scholarship aims to enhance global collaboration in Chinese language education and support aspiring Chinese language teachers worldwide.

Scholarship Benefits

• Tuition Fee Coverage: Full exemption from tuition fees
• Accommodation: Free on-campus housing (shared room)

• On-campus students: 2,500 RMB per month
• Off-campus students: 700 RMB per month (with university approval)
• Allowance Policy: Full amount for students registering on/before the 15th; half amount for those registering after
• Medical Insurance: Comprehensive coverage worth 800 RMB per year

Eligibility Criteria

To be considered, applicants must meet the following requirements:

• Nationality: Must be a non-Chinese citizen
• Legal & Ethical Standing: No criminal record; must follow Chinese laws and ECNU policies
• Health & Conduct: Must be physically and mentally fit, with good academic and moral standing
• Educational Qualification: High school diploma required
• Age Limit: Must be under 25 years old (as of September 1, 2025)
• Language Proficiency:
• HSK Level 4: Minimum 210 points
• HSKK (Intermediate Level): Minimum 60 points

Required Documents

Applicants must submit the following documents:

1. Completed Application Form (in Chinese or English)

2. Copy of Passport (valid)

   • Applicants under 18 must provide a legal guardian declaration in China

3. Academic Documents:

   • High school diploma and transcripts (original or notarized copy)

   • Documents in other languages must have a notarized Chinese or English translation

4. Study/Research Plan: Minimum 800 words (written in Chinese or English)

5. Recommendation Letter from a recommending institution

6. Medical Examination Report (Foreigner Physical Examination Form)

7. Language Certificate: Valid HSK & HSKK scores (issued within the last 2 years)

8. Non-Criminal Record Certificate (notarized in Chinese or English)

9. Application Fee: 800 RMB (pay online)

Application Process

Step 1: Online Application

• Submit your application between February 20 – May 15, 2025

• http://lxsapply.ecnu.edu.cn/Apply to ECNU and pay the 800 RMB application fee

Step 2: Get a Recommendation

• Choose a recommending institution from the provided list

• If applying through ECNU, select it in the HSK test center (Asia – China) dropdown list

• Download the recommendation letter

• Chinese Bridge Award winners should submit their certificate along with other documents

Step 3: Interview (if required)

• Check your email and phone for interview notifications

Step 4: Track Your Application

• Regularly log in to your ECNU account for updates

Step 5: Admission & Enrollment

• Admission results will be posted on your ECNU account

• Accepted students must provide their original graduation and degree certificates at enrollment

• Failure to submit required documents will result in cancellation
