Job Description

If you’re passionate about global economic affairs and development, the Master of International and Development Economics (MIDE) at HTW Berlin could be the ideal program for you. This full-time, 18-month master’s program, funded by DAAD (German Academic Exchange Service), offers an excellent opportunity for students to gain deep insights into development economics, financial institutions, and public enterprises. It is designed for students from both developing and developed countries who are committed to working in international development and economic affairs.

In the MIDE program, students will explore vital topics such as financial institutions, environmental challenges, and public enterprises, particularly in developing countries. The curriculum blends theoretical discussions with practical examples of contemporary policies and strategies. Graduates are prepared to become leaders in development economics, working in sectors such as government, NGOs, international organizations, or the private sector.

The program is conducted in English, and students will study at HTW Berlin, Germany’s largest university of applied sciences, where they can take advantage of excellent facilities and a strong academic network, including connections with international organizations.

DAAD Benefits and MIDE Fees:

DAAD scholarships for eligible students include:

  • Monthly payments of 992 euros
  • Health, accident, and personal liability insurance
  • Travel allowance (unless covered by other funding)
  • Additional benefits like rent subsidies and allowances for accompanying family members

Program Fees:

  • Service Fee: EUR 2,500, payable upon admission
  • Living Expenses: EUR 900-1,000 per month (to be covered by the student)

Eligibility Criteria:

To apply for the MIDE program:

  • Hold a Bachelor’s degree in economics, business administration, or social sciences with a focus on economics
  • Proficiency in English (TOEFL, IELTS, or equivalent)
  • For the DAAD application form  scholarship, applicants must be from developing countries and have at least two years of professional experience but no more than six years since graduation
  • Your first degree must be equivalent to a three-year German Bachelor’s degree (180 ECTS)

  • letter of motivation (max. 2 pages)
  • Transcript of records (including CGPA)
  • Degree certificate(s) with official English/German translations
  • CV (Europass template), signed and dated
  • Copy of passport
  • Proof of English proficiency

For the DAAD scholarship:

  • Completed checklist
  • DAAD application form
  • Motivation letter detailing your academic, professional, and personal reasons for applying
  • Letter of recommendation from your current employer
  • Proof of relevant work experience since your Bachelor’s degree
  • Certified copies of your higher education degree certificates and full transcript of records
  • APS Certificate (for applicants from China)

Admission Evaluation Criteria:

  • Cumulative GPA (40%)
  • Number of economics courses taken (25%)
  • Letter of motivation (35%)
