- Belong to the communities they aim to serve.
- Have prior experience working with marginalized populations.
History of the Queen-Nellie Evans Scholarship
The Queen and Nellie Evans Fund was established by Dr. Arthur Evans, Jr. in memory of his grandmother and mother. Dr. Evans, a clinical and community psychologist known for his groundbreaking contributions to public health, is the CEO and executive vice president of the American Psychological Association.
As the former commissioner of Philadelphia’s Department of Behavioral Health and Intellectual Disability Services, Dr. Evans made significant strides in empowering historically underserved individuals and communities. His transformative work has earned both national and international recognition. In 2015, the White House Office of National Drug Control Policy honored him as an Advocate for Action.
Through the Queen-Nellie Evans Scholarship, the APF provides financial support to graduate students who share a commitment to reducing societal inequalities and uplifting marginalized communities.
